The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Department of Islamic Research and Studies, will hold the second seminar in its annual “In Clear Arabic Language” series on 10 November at Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque. A select group of researchers, academics and writers will participate in discussions on ways to strengthen cultural incubators to advance the Arabic language.
Sheikh Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al-Thani, Director of the Department of Islamic Research and Studies, said the seminar will examine this vital subject through three main themes. The first, “The Role of Cultural Incubators in Preserving and Developing the Arabic Language,” will define cultural incubators and examine their forms in mosques, schools, universities, the media, cultural institutions, scholarly councils and libraries. It will also highlight their historical and civilisational role in nurturing Arabic, experiences in language revival, the relationship between language and identity, and the effect of cultural incubators on forming collective linguistic awareness.
He explained that the second theme, “Challenges Facing the Arabic Language in Its Contemporary Cultural Environment,” will seek ways to confront and address the main intellectual, social and educational challenges hindering the effectiveness of cultural incubators. It will also examine their effects on identity and belonging and ways to resist the cultural marginalisation of the language.
He noted that the third theme will explore practical visions and strategies for advancing the Arabic language by strengthening integration between educational and cultural institutions, activating the role of digital media and modern platforms, and encouraging scientific research in Arabic.
Sheikh Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al-Thani said the “In Clear Arabic Language” seminar makes a qualitative contribution to the series of seminars and cultural projects undertaken by the department. He explained that it is an annual intellectual and scholarly seminar intended to elevate the status of the Arabic language, activate its role in society and in shaping identity, highlight its centrality to the sciences generally and the Sharia sciences in particular, and demonstrate its impact on development and progress.
He stressed that the seminar is founded on the firm conviction that Arabic is the nation’s “civilisational and intellectual incubator,” as the Holy Qur’an was revealed and the noble Prophetic Sunnah transmitted in the language, while it also supported the advancement of science and the development of Islamic civilisation.
The first seminar in the series was held in November 2025 under the title “Arabic: Present Horizons and Future Prospects: Towards Cultural Reconstruction and Reviving the Components of Identity.” The department is preparing to print the proceedings of each seminar and publish them in a documented volume to enrich Arab and Islamic libraries.
