Ministry of Culture Invites Calligraphers Worldwide to Join Akhlaq Award

The Ministry of Culture invited calligraphers and creatives from around the world to register and participate in the second edition of the “Akhlaq Award – International Arabic Calligraphy Art Contest,” as the November 1 deadline for receiving Phase One submissions approaches.

The competition aims to revive Arabic calligraphy according to its authentic traditional rules and highlight noble morals as its central theme. It also seeks to promote human values, develop aesthetic appreciation, and support and preserve Arab and Islamic heritage.

The award seeks to realise an integrated artistic and values-based vision that reinforces values, elevates the standing of ethics in culture and the arts, and emphasises the close connection between noble morals and the refinement of Arabic calligraphy. It also supports creatives and encourages and attracts works from calligraphers worldwide, enabling them to exchange expertise and develop their individual skills.

The organising committee has established mandatory terms and regulations for all participants, foremost among them mastery of the rules of authentic Arabic calligraphy. Each entrant may submit only one artwork, using a text selected from the Phase One list of 20 approved sentences.

Applicants must complete the electronic registration form in full and email a scan of the artwork at a resolution of at least 600 DPI to the designated address. To preserve confidentiality and integrity, adding the calligrapher’s signature or any mark revealing their identity to the front of the artwork is strictly prohibited.

The Ministry of Culture confirmed that valuable cash prizes have been allocated to honour the winners and support their artistic careers. This reflects the stature of Arabic calligraphy, which is not merely ink on paper but the pulse of a nation and an expression of civilisation, connecting the beauty of lettering with the sublimity of human morals.
