Qatar's Katara Cultural Village has unveiled a sculpture by Peruvian artist Marcelo Wong, marking the launch of a dedicated Peruvian cultural corner aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries.
The sculpture, titled Prosperity and Well-being, was unveiled in collaboration with the Embassy of Peru in Qatar at a ceremony attended by Katara General Manager Khalid Al Sulaiti, HE Ambassador of the Republic of Peru Gonzalo Voto Bernales, diplomats, cultural figures and members of the Peruvian community.
The initiative forms part of efforts to promote cultural exchange and highlight the role of art in building bridges between nations, transcending geographical boundaries and fostering mutual understanding.
Speaking at the unveiling, HE Ambassador Voto Bernales described the occasion as a celebration of friendship through the universal language of art. He said the sculpture would serve as a cultural landmark representing Peru at Katara and introduce visitors to the country's artistic heritage and creativity.
The ambassador also expressed pride that "a piece of Peru has found a home at Katara", describing the sculpture as a lasting symbol of friendship between the two countries.
The ceremony featured traditional Peruvian performances and presentations of the country's cuisine, giving guests an opportunity to experience aspects of Peru's cultural identity and heritage.
