Qatar Cultural Centre for the Blind Hosts Session on Media’s Impact

The Qatar Cultural Centre for the Blind, in cooperation with the Programmes Follow-up Unit for Persons with Disabilities at the Department of Da’wah and Religious Guidance of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, organised a session titled "Media and Its Impact on the Life of a Blind Person".

The session addressed several topics related to media and its required skills. Media professional Abdullah Al Buainain, Controller of the Holy Quran Radio, reviewed his beginnings in the media field, the most prominent stages of his professional experience and the challenges he faced. He stressed that media proficiency does not depend on talent alone but combines training, practice and the refinement of skills.

He also discussed the importance of reading, developing one’s knowledge, understanding texts and being familiar with the subject being covered by a media professional. He addressed delivery and presentation skills and control of intonation and vocal tones, explaining their effect in conveying emotions and influencing listeners, as well as the importance of using the voice appropriately to suit the content of the media message.

Al Buainain stressed the importance of media professionals adhering to values, principles, integrity, credibility and professionalism. He also emphasised investigating and verifying information and its sources before publishing or circulating it, particularly given the rapid spread of news through media outlets and social media platforms. He called for considering the effect of information before publishing it, the extent of its benefit and any harm it could cause to others.

At the conclusion of the session, Al Buainain explained to attendees the equipment and technologies used in a radio studio and the process of preparing, coordinating and compiling media material. He also introduced aspects of the radio presentation experience and the nature of work inside the studio. The session forms part of the Centre’s commitment to providing programmes and activities that help develop its members’ skills, enhance their capabilities and strengthen their presence in different fields, supporting their active participation in society.
