Qatar Athletes Samba And Hemeida Set For World Athletics Ultimate Championship

Qatar's Abderrahman Samba and Bassem Hemeida will compete in the men's 400m hurdles at the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest, Hungary, from September 11 to 13.

The pair are scheduled to race in the 400m hurdles on Saturday, September 12, as part of a field featuring leading track and field athletes from around the world.

Samba enters the event with a 2026 season's best of 47.93 seconds, recorded at the Diamond League meeting in Xiamen. Hemeida's season's best is 47.56 seconds, which he set at the GalAthletics meeting in Bellinzona, Switzerland.

Hemeida won the men's 400m hurdles at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok. Samba is a two-time World Championships bronze medallist and will compete among the leading contenders in Budapest.

The participation forms part of the Qatar Athletics Federation's preparations for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, later this month. Samba and Hemeida are also expected to compete in the men's 400m hurdles at the Asian Games.

The two athletes will join Ammar Ibrahim and Ashraf Othman in Qatar's 4x400m relay team for the Asian Games.

The World Athletics Ultimate Championship is a new global event bringing together Olympic and world champions, Diamond League winners and other leading performers to compete for the title of Ultimate Champion.
